The International Institute of Minnesota is proud to support Minnesota’s own Hamse Warfa as he leads the production of a documentary film.
Breaking through standard film industry practices that exclude marginalized people from authoring their own stories and uses them as mere access points for interviews or actors in a scripted narrative, Hamse will use the global language of cinema to bring the stories and themes of his previously published memoir to visual life.
Titled We Will Live, the coming of age story explores the power of memory, imagination, and storytelling to become rooted in a new home and develop a unique identity as an individual who is part of a greater collective.
