Online English Instructor

About This Position

The Language Department at IIMN provides free English language classes, Citizenship classes, and Community Workshops to students from pre-literacy to advanced. The Online English Instructor’s role includes instruction and curriculum development for two online intermediate level English classes, student data entry, and participation in additional department programming.

The regular working hours for this role are Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 2:00p.m. – 8:30p.m.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Teach two student-centered English Core classes online (NRS EFL 2 – 4).
  • Develop and update class curriculum adhering to ACES/TIF and CCRS standards.
  • Complete all student attendance and case notes in required databases.
  • Actively coordinate with other instructors to ensure program consistency and student success.
  • Participate in regular professional development and program, department, and all-staff meetings.
  • Contribute to report writing and record progress notes on students and program.
  • Other duties as assigned

Experience and Qualifications

  • Demonstrated commitment to the International Institute of Minnesota mission and vision
  • B.A. or M.A. in Teaching English as a Second Language, Education, or Linguistics
  • A history of related teaching experience
  • Skilled and comfortable using Zoom both as a participant and facilitator
  • Organizational skills
  • Knowledge of Adult Basic Education in Minnesota including testing and reporting practices
  • Proven oral and written communication skills, including negotiation and problem solving.
  • Self-starter/ability to work independently.

Additional Requirements

  • Use of manual dexterity, tactile, visual, and audio acuity.
  • Physical ability to perform tasks that may require prolonged standing, sitting, and other activities necessary to perform job duties.
