Unaccompanied Minors Case Manager
Jaime Macias works with children who are detained at the U.S./Mexico border with family or legal guardians in Minnesota. Jaime relates to the minors and their families and understands their personal stories and journeys to the U.S. because some of her family members immigrated to the U.S. from Mexico. She builds rapport and trust with her clients while supporting them during difficult situations.
Her connection to the Institute started in 2006. She was a foreign exchange student in Copiapo, Chile in 2003. Her host brother came to Minnesota in 2006, and he took English classes at the Institute. Her motivation to do this work is to help families become more independent and advocate for themselves while adjusting to their new lives here in Minnesota.
