Refugee Family Fund
Securing housing, finding a job, meeting basic needs — these are all things refugees need help with when arriving in Minnesota. When you give to the Refugee Family Fund, families have access to extended services and direct financial assistance to supplement rent deposit, housing and meet basic needs.
Your donation allows us to help refugees from all around the globe, including from Afghanistan and Ukraine. And thanks to you, we will be ready to respond at a moment’s notice when the next refugee crisis strikes.
Basic Needs Fund
Your donations will provide direct financial support to clients in crisis. The most urgent need is helping supplement rent payments to ensure families have safe, stable housing due to an emergency caused by pandemic related employment disruption.
The Basic Needs Fund provides a safety net to clients who do not have access to public benefits like unemployment or federal relief checks. Funds go toward covering events such as an emergency rent payment or medical bills. Many of our clients don’t have savings — so when they experience unexpected life events, the Basic Needs Fund helps them stay afloat.
New Americans Campaign
In Minnesota, 67,796 New Americans haven’t applied for citizenship, even though they are eligible. Barriers, such as language and cost, discourage many from applying. The Institute helps eliminate these barriers by:
- Offering accredited legal assistance to help them apply
- Helps 74% of clients qualify for a waiver or reduction to the $725 USCIS application fee
- Holding free citizenship classes to prepare clients for the interview
- Providing filing assistance and case updates
Citizenship opens up many opportunities to New Americans, including security, access to better jobs, and the right to vote. When you give to the New Americans Campaign, you increase our capacity to guide more clients through the application process to realize full membership in American life.
Next Century Capital Campaign
The past several years has brought an increased demand for our services. To meet that demand and improve the quality of services we offer immigrants and refugees, the Institute completed a major building expansion in 2022. This expansion includes additional classrooms and workspaces, which accommodates the growth of our education and career programs.
Your donation the Next Century Capital Campaign will go toward the costs of completing this project, allowing us to help 500 additional New Americans achieve self-sufficiency each year.
