Sahra Jilaow
Legal Assistant
Sahra Jilaow is passionate about supporting immigrant communities and guiding individuals and families through the immigration process with clarity, compassion, and dignity. As the daughter of a Somali immigrant who navigated the immigration system, she brings a personal understanding of the process.
Sahra earned her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities in 2025, double majoring in Sociology of Law and African American & African Studies, with a minor in History. During college, she worked as a field organizer for Congresswoman Ilhan Omar and supported local campaigns, strengthening her commitment to grassroots advocacy. She also interned with the Council for Minnesotans of African Heritage, a Minnesota state agency focused on advancing equity for African heritage communities throughout the state.
Prior to joining the International Institute of Minnesota, Sahra worked as an Immigration Paralegal, supporting case preparation and client communication, an experience that deepened her commitment to immigration law.
At the International Institute of Minnesota, Sahra is committed to creating welcoming spaces for New Americans and supporting individuals and families through important life transitions.
