Student Family Navigator
About This Position
The Student Family Navigator plays a key role in fostering student success through a holistic, family-centered approach. This position builds meaningful relationships with students and their families to understand their strengths, goals, and needs, and connects family members to educational programs, workforce training, community resources, and support services that promote stability and well-being. Working collaboratively across departments and with community partners, the Student Family Navigator helps remove barriers to participation, strengthen family engagement, and ensure students and their families have the resources and opportunities needed to achieve their educational, career, and personal goals.

Salary range: $60,000
FLSA Status: 1.0 FTE Exempt

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Participate in outreach events, community engagement activities, and recruitment efforts to increase awareness of organizational programs and services.
- Support enrollment, intake, orientation, and retention efforts by helping students and families understand available programs and opportunities.
- Foster a welcoming, inclusive, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed environment where all students and families feel respected, valued, and empowered.
- Conduct family-centered assessments to identify needs, strengths, and opportunities related to education, employment, housing, food access, healthcare, transportation, childcare, financial stability, and overall well-being.
- Develop individualized family support plans that align with each family’s goals and build on existing strengths and address barriers that may impact student participation, educational attainment, employment success, or family stability.
- Connect students and family members to internal programs and community resources that help remove barriers and promote long-term family success.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential documentation of family interactions, referrals, services provided, outcomes, and follow-up activities.
- Participate in organization-wide and team meetings, professional development opportunities, and collaborative initiatives.
- Contribute to grant reporting, program development, and other activities that support the organization’s mission and sustainability.
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of the organization’s mission, strategic priorities, and commitment to student and family success.
Experience and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, Education, Family Studies, Counseling, or a related field.
- Experience working with immigrant, refugee, multilingual, or underserved communities.
- Knowledge of local community resources related to housing, healthcare, food access, childcare, transportation, financial stability, legal services, education, and employment.
- Experience providing family navigation, case management, coaching, or advocacy services.
- Experience working in nonprofit, community-based, educational, or social service organizations.
- Familiarity with trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and family-centered service models.
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and the organization’s mission of supporting learners in achieving their educational, career, and personal goals.
- Strongly preferred: Experience working with immigrant populations and/or spoken language skills in a preferred student language: Spanish, Somali, Arabic, Swahili, French, Ukrainian, or other.

The Institute assists low income New Americans in their transition to a new homeland by providing comprehensive services for successful integration. The Institute serves more than 4,000 New Americans annually with new arrival social services to employment placement and advancement through to U.S. Citizenship attainment. Programs are divided into three primary areas: Refugee Services, Education and Employment Training Services, and Immigration Services. The Institute also provides advocacy for policy reforms and supports systems change that improve opportunities for New Americans to move their lives forward.
