By providing a strong start for refugees and immigrants — from housing and job training, to English classes and college preparation — the International Institute of Minnesota paves the way toward self-sufficiency. Once stability is achieved, we’re there for next steps, too: providing career advancement support, homeownership advising and a pathway toward citizenship.
New Americans come to Minnesota from across the globe, enriching our state’s cultural fabric, workforce and economic vitality. Each new arrival we work with demonstrates remarkable perseverance as they overcome challenges, create opportunities and add unique contributions to the community.
Program Impact
Whether a New American’s first connection with the Institute is through refugee resettlement, or in job training many years after arrival, our comprehensive offerings allow clients to find support, guidance and education that works for them — any time along their journey from arriving to thriving.

About Us
Founded in 1919, the International Institute of Minnesota (IIMN) offers New Americans quality services that support their journey to stability and success. Our comprehensive offerings include refugee resettlement, English education, workforce and leadership development, college preparation and immigration and citizenship assistance. We are a diverse team of knowledgeable and encouraging advocates, ready to welcome refugees and immigrants. IIMN helps New Americans rebuild their lives while pursuing their personal and professional goals.
