By providing a strong start for refugees and immigrants — from housing and job training, to English classes and college preparation — the International Institute of Minnesota paves the way toward self-sufficiency. Once stability is achieved, we’re there for next steps, too: providing career advancement support, homeownership advising and a pathway toward citizenship.
With the Institute as a partner, New Americans and their families journey with increased confidence toward full membership in American life.
Refugee Services
824 clients served
through resettlement, employment, housing, extended services, anti-human trafficking and unaccompanied children, and Ukrainian and Afghan parolee services.

Workforce Development

through job training or College Readiness
82% hourly wage increase for our Medical Pathway Clients from wage at enrollment to wage at job placement

Education

740 students enrolled in English or U.S. citizenship classes
122 students of College Readiness Academy began or graduated from a college degree program
22 home countries presented by students in Community Orientation Workshops
Immigration Services
1,765 clients served
1,134 U.S. citizenship applications filed
94% IIMN supported applicants achieved U.S. citizenship
$345,405 saved by IIMN clients in naturalization application fees to USCIS
631 clients supported with green card applications for refugees or asylees, DACA renewals and other immigration services

Founded in 1919, the International Institute of Minnesota (IIMN) offers New Americans quality services that support their journey to stability and success. Our comprehensive offerings include refugee resettlement, English education, workforce and leadership development, college preparation and immigration and citizenship assistance. We are a diverse team of knowledgeable and encouraging advocates, ready to welcome refugees and immigrants. IIMN helps New Americans rebuild their lives while pursuing their personal and professional goals.
