Refugee Services Case Manager
About This Position
The Refugee Services Case Manager is an essential member of the Refugee Services team who provides direct case management to immigrants and refugees in accordance with program requirements. Case management includes completing assessments of need, intakes and enrollments; supporting families in achieving goals outlined in their service plans; teaching adults how to utilize public transportation; connecting adults to employment services; educating families on budgeting strategies; and promoting independence and continued linkage to resources. The Refugee Services Case Manager also orients clients to their community and supports them in navigating and accessing available community resources.

Salary range: $52,000-$54,000
FLSA Status: Full time, exempt

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide direct case management services that center client voice and emphasize collaborative goal setting and empowerment strategies
- Read and understand program requirements as outlined in federal contracts
- Assist with applications for public benefits such as food support, cash assistance, health insurance, SSI, WIC, and childcare assistance
- Coordinate with clients to arrange appointments for services including medical visits, Social Security, school enrollment, and English class registration, as needed
- Show adults how to navigate public transportation and ensure independence in utilizing transportation systems in the Metro Area
- Support families with cultural navigation and developing problem-solving strategies
- Interpret or arrange for interpreters for clients and/or family members as necessary
- Complete all required case notes, database entry, and paperwork as required
- Make appropriate internal and external referrals to other services that help advance clients’ goals
Note: The Case Manager is also expected to attend all team and staff meetings as required by supervisor and may be asked to assist with other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
- Commitment to the human rights and general welfare of asylum seekers, refugees, and immigrants
- Capable of working in a fast-paced, multicultural office environment
- Demonstrated experience taking initiative with projects and tasks, and seeing things through to completion, with minimal supervisor oversight
- Experience supporting individuals and families in developing problem-solving strategies and building multi-step approaches to goals achievement
- Proactive problem-solver with ability to independently address issues as they arise
- Ability to work in a highly collaborative space and across multiple teams, with a willingness to support teammates in accordance with our “one team” philosophy
- Commitment to the use of strength-based client approaches, and to supporting families in their journeys to becoming confident, independent, and self-sufficient
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, including required administrative tasks such as comprehensive case noting and case file documentation
- Ability to speak Arabic, Dari, French, Oromo, Pashto, Somali, Spanish, or Swahili, preferred
- Bachelor’s degree or work experience in a relevant field preferred
- Willingness to move furniture, including beds, for housing set-ups, as needed
- Valid driver’s license and access to own transportation required (must be willing to transport clients in personal vehicle)
- Experience with Microsoft Office applications
