Meet Our Board Members: Paul McEnaney-Rodriguez

February 10, 2025 | Throughout our 105-year history, the International Institute of Minnesota has offered innovative programs and services to meet the changing needs of New Americans. We are grateful to our Board of Directors who generously donate their time and expertise contributing to the Institute’s work and mission. Today, meet Paul McEnaney-Rodriguez, one of our five newest board members.

1) You could share your valuable time and skills with many deserving non-profits. Why have you chosen to join the board of the International Institute of Minnesota?

I deeply believe in the power of welcoming and empowering New Americans in Minnesota. My parents immigrated from the Philippines in their 20s, and their journey inspires me, as do the countless stories of immigrants and refugees. The Institute’s work in building communities of support aligns perfectly with my values of inclusivity.

I hope to contribute my expertise in data-driven strategies, particularly in things like communications. I want to help the Institute effectively connect with its audiences, amplify its impact, and ensure its resources reach those who need them most.

3) Why is this work important to you?

I believe creating opportunities for New Americans strengthens individuals and fosters vibrant, inclusive communities. Everyone has unique experiences and talents to offer, and ensuring they have the opportunity to thrive benefits all Minnesotans.

4) Do you have a personal connection to our mission?

Throughout my life, I’ve experienced the transformative power of community support in areas like sports, education, and personal growth. These experiences have shown me the importance of belonging and support systems, and I’m passionate about helping others build those same connections.

5) What kind of impact do you hope your board member work has?

I hope my work helps the Institute connect with more people and share its story in a way that inspires broad support. Ultimately, I want to contribute to making its vision a reality for generations to come, ensuring it continues to build strong communities and transform lives.
