They have already swung into action, educating immigrants about their rights, forming crisis legal teams to halt deportations, helping undocumented immigrants get driver’s licenses, and pushing for state action, like passage of the North Star Act.

MPR News | Immigration experts and advocates in Minnesota are both preparing for and wondering what changes may happen to an already complex immigration system under another Trump administration.

We would like to remind our clients and the immigrant community that the Institute is a trusted resource, no matter how U.S. immigration policy may change. We encourage the community to stay informed by trustworthy sources like immigration professionals and Institute staff.
Institute client Pascal resettled in Minnesota after fleeing the war-torn Democratic Republic of Congo. Many people in his family, however, remained at a refugee camp in Malawi, separated and awaiting reunification. The International Institute of Minnesota helped make that reunification happen.
Hundreds of our clients earned citizenship this year and can vote for the first time in November! This voting guide shares information about how to vote and answers questions about Election Day. You can also download voting information in Spanish, Somali and Hmong.
We’re preparing for the winter ahead and need the community’s help! Imagine arriving in Minnesota as a refugee from a warm-weather country like Congo or Ethiopia, having never seen snow. Many of the arrivals we welcome don’t have the winter necessities needed to stay warm. You can help by organizing a winter coat drive for newly arriving families.
