Citizenship Instructor
Position Description
Our English classes focus on providing a place for students to consistently and comfortably develop the skills required to live and work in the United States. Students range from pre-literacy learners to preparing for the GED. Our English Language Program has developed a Citizenship Class to teach English language students the information covered in the 100 questions of the Naturalization Interview.
Estimated hours/week:
2+ hours (minimum 3 month commitment)

Onsite at the International Institute of Minnesota, 1694 Como Ave, Saint Paul, MN 55108

As the volunteer Citizenship Class teacher, you will:
- Teach the class independently using the Institute-developed curriculum
- Connect with students on their individual needs in regards to driving and adapt materials accordingly
- Track student attendance

Communicate regularly with Institute staff regarding your needs and class progress
- Experience teaching or tutoring adult English language learners
- Good communication skills
- Confident working independently and running a class
- Enthusiasm, flexibility, and a desire to listen, talk, and learn with New Americans
- Comfortable connecting with Institute staff with questions and concerns
- 2+ hours per week
- Class meets on Fridays from 12:30 pm – 2:30 pm
- 3 month minimum
