Matching Grant Case Manager

About This Position

The Matching Grant (MG) Case Manager is an essential member of the Refugee Services team and provides direct case management to newly arrived refugee families for their first eight months in Minnesota. This includes connecting families with ongoing social services supports and connections, supporting families in attaining quick employment to achieve self-sufficiency within their first few months in Minnesota, and orienting clients to their new community by helping them navigate systems such as healthcare, finances, public transportation, and community services.

REPORTS TO: Refugee Services Program Manager

Salary range: $50,000 – $54,000; Starting salary is dependent on experience.

FTE: 1.0

FLSA Status: Exempt

Primary Responsibilities

  • Read, understand, and implement program requirements as outlined in Matching Grant program materials
  • Conduct home visits and cultural orientation to life in the United States
  • Complete intake papers, and ongoing paperwork throughout the case management period, as well as assist each client with creating short- and long-term goals
  • Assist with applications for additional social services that support family integration
  • Support adults in navigating public transportation and ensuring ongoing independence in utilizing transportation systems in the Metro Area
  • Interpret or arrange for interpreters for clients and/or family members as necessary
  • Make needed referrals to other services that will help advance clients’ goals
  • Document tasks in case notes in an organized and timely manner and complete necessary and required paperwork for each case
  • Attend all required team, department, and Institute meetings
  • Collaborate with Matching Grant Employment Counselors to support accelerated employment objectives on behalf of clients
  • Hold clients accountable to program requirements and ensuring ongoing compliance with all required activities for enrollment
  • Work with Program Manager and Program Director to use data collected from client to improve program implementation and enhance client experience
  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience and Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Must be capable of working in a fast-paced, multicultural office environment, take initiative, and be able to handle and prioritize multiple assignments at once.
  • Commitment to the use of strengths-based client approaches, and to supporting families in their journeys to becoming confident, independent, and self-sufficient
  • Commitment to the human rights and general welfare of asylum seekers, refugees, and immigrants
  • Valid driver’s license and access to own transportation required. Must be willing to transport clients in your vehicle.
  • Must have the ability to work some late nights and weekends
  • Must have strong organizational skills and attention to detail including comprehensive case noting
  • Skilled in problem solving and able to independently address issues as they arise
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications

Preferred experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or relevant work experience in a related field
  • Ability to speak Arabic, Somali, Burmese, Karen, Oromo, Spanish, Swahili or French

Additional Requirements

  • Use of manual dexterity, tactile, visual and audio acuity.
  • Use of repetitive motion, prolonged periods of sitting, and sustained visual and mental applications and demands.
  • Occasional lifting (up to 25 pounds), bending, pulling and carrying.
