MNsure Navigator

About This Position

The purpose of this position is to help and assist New Americans with the Minnesota MNsure health insurance process. This position is the main support contact for all MNsure inquiries for the International Institute of Minnesota’s (IIMN) students and clients and the broader community. Note that this is a part-time (20-hour/week), in-person position at the Institute.

Salary range: $24 – $26/hour, depending on experience.

FTE: 0.5

FLSA Status: Hourly

Primary Responsibilities

  • Complete and submit MNsure applications for eligible applicants, including IIMN students and clients
  • Attend initial and annual MNSure Navigator training
  • Communicate frequently with other staff members in the Refugee Services Department about new arrivals
  • Distribute program material to IIMN’s students at community outreach events
  • Present health insurance information to all IIMN classes
  • Screen all IIMN students for health insurance eligibility
  • Provide open communication with all IIMN staff members to ensure smooth referral process
  • Educate MNsure clients in the proper use of their health insurance
  • Maintain MNsure Outreach client database
  • Track client enrollment details to ensure accurate state reimbursement payments with Financial Director
  • Write and submit monthly reports for MNsure Grant
  • Assist grant writer with grant applications
  • Design and update descriptive program material
  • Meet regularly with MNsure Outreach Grant supervisor
  • Attend required IIMN staff meetings
  • Other duties as assigned

Experience and Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Commitment to the human rights and general welfare of New Americans
  • Ability to work independently and in consultation with staff members of all IIMN departments
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multicultural environment, take initiative, work independently and prioritize multiple simultaneous needs
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications and ability to manage program databases

Preferred experience:

  • Bilingual in English and Amharic, Arabic, Dari, French, Karen, Kiswahili, Oromo, Pashto, Somali or Spanish preferred
  • Preference given to applicants with background in Minnesota counties and state services/programs

Additional Requirements

  • Use of manual dexterity, tactile, visual and audio acuity.
  • Use of repetitive motion, prolonged periods of sitting, and sustained visual and mental applications and demands.
  • Occasional lifting (up to 25 pounds), bending, pulling and carrying.

About Us

The International Institute of Minnesota is a dynamic organization that provides services to maximize the talents and opportunities New Americans bring to our state. The Institute assists low income New Americans in their transition to a new homeland by providing comprehensive services for successful integration. The Institute serves more than 4,000 New Americans annually with new arrival social services to employment placement and advancement through to U.S. Citizenship attainment. Programs are divided into three primary areas: Refugee Services, Education and Employment Training Services, and Immigration Services. The Institute also provides advocacy for policy reforms and supports systems change that improve opportunities for New Americans to move their lives forward.
