STEM Navigator and Instructor

About This Position

The STEM Navigator and Instructor will guide immigrants with international healthcare and STEM backgrounds or STEM interest into and through U.S. educational and job pathways. This role includes direct instruction in Math to a variety of ELL levels, personalized support navigation, and career readiness support to ensure participants are college and/or job ready.

Salary range: 

$40,000 -$44,000 (dependent upon experience)

FTE: 

0.8 FTE (28.5 hours per week)

FLSA Status: 

Non-Exempt

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Teach Math Academy: Teach students at High Beginning to advanced ESL levels in basic through college-level math skills.
  • Recruitment, Testing, and Registration: Assist in recruiting students for Math Academy, coordinate entry testing and registration processes, and ensure seamless onboarding for program participants.
  • STEM Career Networking and Resume Writing: Facilitate workshops on job application skills, including resume writing and interviewing, to build participant networks and career readiness.
  • STEM Career Fair: Plan and execute an annual career fair to connect participants with STEM employers, training programs, and educational institutions.
  • STEM Career Navigation: Provide one-on-one guidance to assess qualifications, understand career pathways, and connect with local employers and educational institutions.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in TESOL, STEM, or a related field.
  • Experience teaching New American adult learners and developing curriculum.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, Zoom, and client management systems (e.g., SID).
  • Excellent interpersonal and team collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work flexibly and manage both online and in-person instruction.

Additional Requirements

  • Use of manual dexterity, tactile, visual, and audio acuity.
  • Physical ability to perform tasks that may require prolonged standing, sitting, and other activities necessary to perform job duties.

The Institute serves more than 4,000 New Americans annually with new arrival social services to employment placement and advancement through to U.S. Citizenship attainment. Programs are divided into three primary areas: Refugee Services, Education and Employment Training Services, and Immigration Services. The Institute also provides advocacy for policy reforms and supports systems change that improve opportunities for New Americans to move their lives forward.
