Student Services Assistant
About This Position
The Student Services Assistant plays the key role of connecting students to education and workforce classes to set short and long-term goals during intake; addresses student barriers to education for Community Workshop clients; inter-department class coordination and communication; organization-wide collaboration to connect students to programs and resources. The Student Services Assistant is part of the department of education at the Institute.

REPORTS TO: Language Department Manager
Salary range: $50,000-$52,000
FLSA Status: 1.0 FTE Exempt

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinate and implement multi-program student registration and intake.
- Administer standardized Adult Education tests to prospective and current students
- Coordinate Metro Transit TAP program for the Education department.
- Assist Community Workshops staff in addressing student barriers to education including student bus training, technology distribution, and program registration.
- Collect and organize information from all IIMN programs for student use.
- Track all student and client enrollment and interactions in relevant databases.
- Provide occasional substitute instruction in the English for Work EL classes
- Attend relevant organization and team meetings.
- Participate in grant writing as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Experience and Qualifications
- Commitment to the International Institute of Minnesota mission and vision
- Proven oral and written communication skills, including negotiation and problem solving.
- Adept in Microsoft programs, specifically navigating Outlook, Teams, and Word.
- Ability to work independently and manage information from multiple programs and databases.
- Flexibility in day-to-day tasks to prioritize addressing student needs
- Strongly preferred: previous teaching experience, particularly with adult and/or ESL learners
- Strongly preferred: Knowledge of Minnesota Adult Basic Education and/or the Minnesota Resettlement Programs Office.
- Strongly preferred: Experience working with immigrant populations and/or spoken language skills in a preferred student language: Spanish, Somali, Arabic, Swahili, French, Ukrainian, or other.

The Institute serves more than 4,000 New Americans annually with new arrival social services to employment placement and advancement through to U.S. Citizenship attainment. Programs are divided into three primary areas: Refugee Services, Education and Employment Training Services, and Immigration Services. The Institute also provides advocacy for policy reforms and supports systems change that improve opportunities for New Americans to move their lives forward.
