Hospitality Classroom Assistant

Position Description
The Hospitality Classroom Assistant will assist the instructor with classroom activities. Hospitality classes are a fun and interactive class setting. Students are motivated to learn through hands-on and practical activities that will assist them in everyday living, as well as to secure employment. The classroom assistant will be able to see the progress that students are making, celebrate their success and know they are making a difference in the lives of new Americans.

This volunteer will assist the instructor with classroom activities, which can include:
- Small group activities
- One-on-one work
- Practical work readiness activities (for example, the Dining Experience, the Student store, and hands on testing)
- Volunteer may also help instructor in prepping and updating materials for next class
- If volunteer feels comfortable, they could also assist with class opening activities
- Open and willing to help New Americans to practice their English and their job skills
- Accommodating of mistakes and misunderstandings
- Willing to give constructive feedback to help students improve
- Able to be flexible, patient and go with the flow
Highest priority is someone with experience working with low level English speakers. Prior experience with classroom settings, teaching, hospitality preferred but not required.
- Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday;
- 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
- Minimum of 3 month minimum preferred
There are 6 sessions of classes per year. Each session is 7 weeks long, with a week break in between each session. There are morning (9:30am – 12pm) and afternoon (12:30pm – 3pm) classes. Sessions rotate from Dietary Aide, Housekeeping, and Customer Service
