About This Position
The Languages Department at the International Institute of Minnesota provides free English Language classes, Citizenship classes, and Community Workshops (CW) to students from pre-literacy to advanced. CWs are geared towards new Americans in accordance with CCRS and Refugees Programs Office (RPO) Family Wellbeing Inventory topics and requirements. Workshops focus on the skills and English necessary to navigate everyday life in Minnesota. Topics include housing, education, transportation, citizenship and more. The CW program is provided with funding from RPO and in partnership with the Minnesota Council of Churches (MCC).
The Community Workshops Instructor’s role includes instruction and curriculum development for in-person and online CWs, student data entry, and an active role in overall department programming.
The regular working hours of the International Institute of Minnesota are Monday – Friday 8:45a.m. – 5:00p.m.

Salary range: $51,000 – $53,000

Primary Responsibilities:
- Classroom Instruction: in-person and online Community Workshops onsite at the Institute and at partner organizations throughout the Twin Cities both in English and with interpreter support.
- Curriculum Development: work with other CW staff to update current and develop new curriculum that meets the needs of shifting student populations.
- Maintain accurate student tracking for enrollment, attendance, progress notes, and case notes multiple databases including SID, statewide MRIS and internal CRM.
- Provide students with referrals to reliable community resources.
- Coordinate with CW staff and MCC to ensure program adherence to RPO requirements.
- Coordinate with other instructors to ensure program consistency and student referrals.
- Build and maintain cross-organization relationships to schedule workshops.
- Participate in staff meetings and professional development opportunities with the Institute and RPO
- Contribute to report writing, record progress notes on students and program, enter student case notes as needed, and track student attendance and demographics.
- Administrative Tasks: Contribute to report writing, record progress notes on students and program. Attend the Institute All-staff meetings & weekly team meetings.
- Other duties as assigned.
Experience and Qualifications
- Demonstrated commitment to the International Institute of Minnesota’s mission and vision.
- Has B.A. or M.A. in either English as a Second Language, Education, or Linguistics and a history of related teaching experience.
- History of English language or adult basic education teaching or program experience.
- Knowledge of Minnesota community services and resettlement programs.
- Experienced in working with immigrant populations.
- Skilled and comfortable using Zoom both as a participant and facilitator.
- Comfortable interacting with and promoting programs across multiple organizations.
Additional Requirements
- Use of manual dexterity, tactile, visual, and audio acuity.
- Use of repetitive motion, prolonged periods of sitting, and sustained visual and mental applications and demands.
