Employment Navigator

About This Position

The Hospitality Career Pathway was developed to help newly arrived immigrants and refugees overcome obstacles related to finding entry level employment that will start students on a career pathway.  The Employment Navigator will provide case management, coaching and instruction for students in the job training classes. Job training courses include Housekeeping, Dietary Aide and Customer Service Training.  Work Readiness curriculum includes resume writing, interviewing, worker’s rights, goal setting, job search and others.

$51,000 – $53,000

Primary Responsibilities:

Employment Casework (60% of time) 

  • Provide case management to program graduates and participants to secure long-term employment or additional educational opportunities.
  • Meet individually with students to support their job search, including preparing for interviews, revising resumes, and planning their career path.
  • Conduct job searches for clients, connect students to job opportunities and act as a reference for program graduates.
  • Transport graduates and participants to apply for jobs, job interviews or as needed.
  • Help participants identify and manage any costs incurred during the training program, ensuring they receive necessary financial support.
  • Conduct follow-up calls with graduates who are placed in employment to track job retention, satisfaction and performance.
  • Refer graduates and participants to additional training and education within and without the Institute.
  • Refer graduates and participants to other social services needed to secure employment.

Employer Relations (15% of time)

  • Maintain positive employer relationships.
  • Advocate for student needs with employer.
  • Receive employer open positions and communicate with relevant staff and students.
  • Arrange and conduct mock interviews for Hospitality Pathway classes.
  • Communicate with the Manager any difficulties that arise between employer partners and students.
  • Attend and facilitate regular employment meetings with other employment staff at the Institute.

Classroom (15% of time)

  • Teach work-readiness classes utilizing prepared curriculum as part of the Hospitality Pathway classes.
  • Update work-readiness curriculum as needed.
  • Assist in running and maintaining the Student Store.
  • Assist in Hospitality Pathway classes as needed.

Program support (10% of time)

  • Attend Institute All-staff meetings, Employment staff meeting, Education Professional Development meetings and program weekly team meetings.
  • Assist with intake and registration as needed.
  • Enter data and case notes in program database (SID & CRM).
  • Assist in set-up and clean-up of graduations/celebrations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Experience and Qualifications

  • Demonstrated commitment to the International Institute of Minnesota’s mission and vision.
  • Undergraduate degree preferred but equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Ability to speak a second language (Somali, French, Karen, Arabic, Swahili or Amharic) preferred.
  • Ability to work with students in a group setting and one on one.
  • Knowledge of the Twin Cities’ job market, hiring trends, and application procedures
  • Driver’s license, adequate insurance and vehicle to transport clients as needed.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Highly organized and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Skilled in problem solving and able to independently address issues as they arise.
  • Teaching experience, preferred
  • Experience working with immigrants preferred.

 

Additional Requirements

  • Use of manual dexterity, tactile, visual, and audio acuity.
  • Use of repetitive motion, prolonged periods of sitting, and sustained visual and mental applications and demands.
