Unaccompanied Children Case Manager (Spanish-speaking)
About This Position
The Case Manager will provide direct services to clients of the Unaccompanied Children (UC) Program. The UC Program provides services to non-U.S. citizens under the age of 18 who are in Office of Refugee Resettlement shelters and are reuniting with family members or friends in Minnesota or a neighboring state. The case manager will conduct safety assessments of the potential homes and connect the children to supportive services after release. The case manager will also provide post-release intensive case management services to some clients.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide trauma-informed direct services to unaccompanied immigrant children after release from ORR shelters. This includes assessment, safety planning, resource coordination, transportation, and providing informal emotional support
- Facilitate referrals for youth and their sponsors/families to resources such as housing, legal services, food banks, medical and dental clinics, and mental health services
- Complete home studies to assess the safety and fitness of potential sponsors for unaccompanied children
- Visit a potential sponsor’s home and assess suitability of conditions for a child
- Travel throughout Minnesota to meet with unaccompanied children and their sponsors
- Participate in the maintenance and development of the programs through monthly coordinator calls, meetings, written reports, and community outreach
- Maintain organized files and timely, detailed case notes and client reports. Enter client information into program database(s)
- Other duties as assigned
Experience and Qualifications
- Commitment to the human rights and general welfare of refugees and immigrants
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, behavioral science, human services or social services field
- Minnesota Social Work license (LSW or greater) preferred
- Bilingual in Spanish and English
- Capable of working in a fast-paced multicultural office environment, take initiative, and be able to handle and prioritize multiple assignments
- Experience providing direct services to immigrant youth and/or experience in child welfare, foster care/adoption, or a related field
- Knowledge of local community resources, child welfare, kinship care and family preservation
- Knowledge of the dynamics of trauma and trauma-informed care
- Strong interviewing, assessment, and writing skills
- Ability to manage time effectively, create an organized schedule, and maintain organized case files and documentation
- Strong ability to respond to and manage crisis situations with clients
- Must have a valid driver’s license, insurance, and own car and be willing to travel across Minnesota and transport clients in your vehicle

- Use of repetitive motion, prolonged periods of sitting, and sustained visual and mental applications and demands.
