Volunteer and Community Partnerships Manager

About This Position

The Volunteer and Community Partnerships Manager connects the talents and time of the community to contribute to the mission of the International Institute of Minnesota. This position leads the growth and development of processes and procedures that provide standards and centralize volunteer roles across many programs and departments. This position is a community builder who develops positive relationships with volunteers, program participants and staff. It facilitates the meaningful engagement of community organizations, ethnic, faith-based, and civic organizations to participate in welcoming immigrants and refugees to Minnesota. It leads all aspects of communication, training, coaching and program implementation to ensure positive experiences for all volunteers and provides ongoing connections to Institute alumni so they can offer support. This position actively collaborates with the Refugee Services Volunteer Coordinator and Citizenship Case Aide to ensure a seamless volunteer experience. This is one of seven employees on the Institute’s development team, inclusive of individual giving, grants and contracts, communications, and volunteer programs. It reports to the Director of Development.

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Volunteer Program Management (50%)
  • Provide leadership to build the volunteer capacity of IIMN by developing appropriate volunteer roles that align with needed capacity.
  • Manage all aspects of the volunteer experience throughout the organization including but not limited to recruiting, screening, compliance with volunteer policies, training and placing volunteers in positions to maximize time program staff spend on program delivery.
  • Adopt systems and maintain all volunteer data and reports accurately in Volgistics software. Use WordPress, Jotform and other software tools to ensure a seamless application and onboarding experience. Ensure volunteer opportunities are up-to-date and accurate on the Institute’s website.
  • Lead volunteer program evaluation and ensure volunteer, staff and client satisfaction in the volunteer program.
  • Advise and participate in developing strategic plans and goals for the Institute’s development team.
  1. Internship Program Support (10%)
  • Provide support to recruit and onboard Institute interns.
  • Create and edit relevant marketing materials, post internship openings on the Institute’s website, share applications with hiring staff and ensure all interns receive training and comply with Institute policies.
  • Maintain relationships with college, university, and nonprofit partners to ensure positions are shared through appropriate networks.
  1. Community Partnerships and Group Volunteering (20%)
  • Build connections and maintain partnerships with civic organizations, schools, ethnic and faith community organizations, employers, and donors to contribute to the Institute’s mission as volunteers, in-kind donors and financial supporters.
  • Communicate the Institute’s mission and volunteer needs to engage corporate employee resource groups and connect members to ongoing and one time volunteer opportunities.
  • Prepare and empower community groups to organize donation drives on behalf of the Institute’s programs. Create and support service day volunteer events and facilitate inquiries and projects.
  1. In Kind Donations (20%)
  • Lead IIMN events and grassroots solicitation for all in-kind donations (winter gear, household items and non-monetary forms of assistance) to support clients’ basic needs across Institute programs.
  • Support marketing and stewardship of in-kind donations.
  • Record and acknowledge in-kind donations collected through IIMN and community partners.
  • Develop new prospects for in-kind donations and maintain relationships with companies and other in-kind donors.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Position Requirements:
    • The Volunteer and Community Partnerships Manager should have at a minimum of three years’ experience in volunteer management, human resources, program management, or public relations roles.
    • Strong communication, relationship development, and collaboration skills as well as the ability to work independently are essential.
    • Ability to develop positive relationships with Institute clients, donors, staff and supporters.
    • Ability to problem solve, be flexible and develop systems that evolve with a growing team and organization.
    • Occasional work during the early mornings, evenings and weekends may be necessary.
    • Must have a valid driver’s license, car insurance, and own vehicle to drive within the metro area.

     

  • Preferred Experience:
    • Working knowledge of Volgistics, volunteer management software.
    • Experience working in a multicultural setting, knowledge of U.S. refugee and immigration policy, human rights, or related topics.

Additional Requirements

  • Use of manual dexterity, tactile, visual, and audio acuity.
  • Use of repetitive motion, prolonged periods of sitting, and sustained visual and mental applications and demands.
  • Occasional lifting (up to 25 pounds), bending, pulling, and carrying.

The Institute serves more than 4,000 New Americans annually with new arrival social services to employment placement and advancement through to U.S. Citizenship attainment. Programs are divided into three primary areas: Refugee Services, Education and Employment Training Services, and Immigration Services. The Institute also provides advocacy for policy reforms and supports systems change that improve opportunities for New Americans to move their lives forward.
