December 29, 2023 | About a year ago, the city of St. Paul led the country’s first mayor-led guaranteed income pilot. That gave 150 families $500 per month for 18 months, and the results are that the number of people employed increased and the ability to find better housing increased.

Around the same time, the International Institute of Minnesota led its own guaranteed income pilot, specifically for New Americans. The 25 families they helped were mostly refugees but included other types of immigrants as well, and the Institute says the results have been equally positive. (Continued…)
