Mary Ellen Kavanaugh
English Instructor
Mary Ellen Kavanaugh, originally from New York state, brings years of experience as an educator to her teaching. She taught high school for many years and has been teaching English to New Americans since 2004. She started at the Institute as a volunteer in 2019 and is now a happy staff member.
She delights in coming to work each day alongside excellent colleagues and students who are hard-working, eager to learn and great fun to be with. When she’s not at work, she volunteers with Standing Up for Racial Justice, practices the concertina and is part of three reading groups.
