Micaela Schuneman
Senior Director of Immigration and Refugee Services
Micaela Schuneman has been interested in telling stories about immigrant experiences since college when she made a documentary film about a Mexican bakery in rural Iowa. She is proud to work at the Institute which is a “one-stop shop” for immigrants in Minnesota. It is the sort of place that she wishes her Abuelita could have turned to when she came to the U.S. many years ago.
Micaela received her Juris Doctor and Bachelor of Arts degrees from the University of Iowa. She is the author of “Seven Years of Bad Luck: How the Government’s Delay in Issuing U-Visa Regulations Further Victimized Immigrant Crime Victims,” published in Volume 12, Issue 2 of The Journal of Gender, Race, & Justice.
