Take the First Step to Start Your Own Business

In this 8-week interactive class you will learn the basics of entrepreneurship. Alongside a cohort of your New American peers, you will develop your business plan and receive support from knowledgeable teachers, financial coaches and business experts.

You will learn what is needed to be successful and how to decide if being your own boss is right for you.

Who Can Take Class?

To qualify for our Entrepreneurship class, you must:

  • Be born outside of the United States
  • Has permission to work in the United States
  • Have advanced English reading, writing, speaking and listening skills
  • Be able to attend all class sessions in person

About This Class

During these eight weeks you will: 

  • Write your business plan
  • Develop your mission and vision statements
  • Discover your target market
  • Understand financial statements and how to make your business sustainable
  • Learn about different business structures and which is right for you
  • Connect with technical business experts, including financial resources
  • Earn a nationally recognized entrepreneurship certificate

Class is free, thanks to generous financial support from the community.

This class will meet in person two days a week. Additional work will be assigned for completion outside of class time.

We are teaching an introduction to writing a business plan that can be used in your funding pitches. We will connect you with technical business experts, including financial resources. The International Institute of Minnesota does not provide direct funding.

Yes, we are close to several bus stops. Use the Metro Transit online Trip Planner to map your way to 1694 Como Avenue, St. Paul, MN 55108 Trip Planner – Metro Transit.

The closest bus stops are Stop #870 or Stop #929 on Como Ave. Other nearby bus stops are on Snelling Ave. and include Stop Numbers 18523, 931, 866, or 56119. From these bus stops, you will have a 5-10 minute walk to the International Institute of Minnesota.
